Sergio Ruzzier

Sergio Ruzzier is the author and illustrator of many children’s books, including Good Boy, A Letter for Leo, Bear and Bee, and Two Mice. He is the illustrator of Florence Parry Heide’s Tales for the Perfect Child and Fables You Shouldn’t Pay Any Attention To, and has created comic strips for Italian magazines Linus and Lupo Alberto Magazine. He has also done work for many national and international magazines and book publishers. His work has been awarded by American Illustration, The Society of Illustrators, Communication Arts, The Society of Publication Designers, and Parents’ Choice, and in 2011 he was awarded the Sendak Fellowship. I was born in Milan, Italy, in 1966. I grew up reading comics and picture books. Among my favorite books were the Minarik/Sendak's Little Bear series, Bruno Munari's "Cappuccetto Verde" ("Little Green Riding Hood"), and Dino Buzzati's "La famosa invasione degli orsi in Sicilia". As a young teenager, I discovered and fell in love with the old American comics: Krazy Kat, Popeye, Dick Tracy, and many more. At the same time, I was surrounded and fascinated by Medieval and Early Renaissance art, especially Giotto, Simone Martini, Ambrogio and Pietro Lorenzetti, and many other wonderful, lesser-known painters and illuminators.
