Carol Doak's Creative Combinations book is an excellent addition to my quilting and paper piecing knowledge, experience and enjoyment. This newest book has quickly become an indispensable addition to my quilting tools because it allows for expanding my creative capabilities. I love the "double duty" blocks which are printed on legal size foundations and allows the quilter to quickly complete paper pieced works of art with options in terms of placement of those blocks. I would dare say that some of Carol's double duty blocks actually provide triple duty possibilities. When my copy of the book arrived in the mail, i was able to quickly complete a table topper, using the double duty blocks and had a project completed and on display within a few hours. Speaking of technology, you have to love it when a great book not only comes with some wonderful quilt designs and a multitude of variations on each but also includes a CD that allows you to change the size of your quilt or design your own patterns or print your foundations from your computer. Carol Doak's designs are paper pieced and patterns are included for copying or you can print (and resize if you wish) from your computer using the CD. What I particularly like is that Carol includes a gallery of blocks used in the book. While the book gives you many ideas and variations for these blocks, Carol also encourages you to play with them using your own fabric choices and layouts, thereby creating a quilt that is your own.
