About The Book

For fans of C.J. Box and Jess Lourey, award-winning author Shannon Baker sends Nebraska sheriff Kate Fox into the Costa Rican jungle—where a wildlife trafficking ring holds the people she loves, and no badge will save her.

Out of her jurisdiction. Out of her depth. Out of time.

Kate Fox thought she’d traded danger on the Nebraska plains for a quieter life—and a real chance with Baxter. But when he vanishes in the Costa Rican jungle—and her niece Carly is arrested while trying to free trafficked wildlife—Kate is pulled thousands of miles from home and straight into a nightmare.

An ex-sheriff used to chasing cattle thieves, Kate’s now facing something far deadlier: a wildlife smuggling ring trading jaguars, sloths, and venomous snakes for millions. In a desperate bid to save Carly, she goes undercover in the traffickers’ world—where one wrong word could get her killed, and the only law is survival.

But somewhere in the jungle, Baxter is still out there. And the deeper Kate goes undercover, the more she realizes saving the people she loves may cost her the one thing she can’t get back—her life.
