Simon & Schuster Canada is proud to announce the acquisition of a memoir by former Chief Justice of Canada Beverley McLachlin. The memoir, entitled Truth Be Told: My Journey through Life and the Law, will be published on September 24, 2019.

In Truth Be Told, former Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Canada Beverley McLachlin offers an intimate and revealing look at her life, sharing her insights into the most pressing legal and social questions we face today.

From a young age, McLachlin had an innate sense of justice, one that was reinforced by the lessons her parents taught her and the extraordinary tapestry of people and perspectives in her rural Prairie hometown of Pincher Creek. That faith in justice served her well as she distinguished herself as a lawyer and rose through the courts. She faced sexism, exclusion, and personal tragedy, but McLachlin was determined to prove her worth. She laid down a legal legacy that affirmed fairness and justice were not luxuries of the powerful but rather obligations owed to each and every one of us.

“We are honoured to publish Beverley McLachlin’s memoir,” says Kevin Hanson, President and Publisher of Simon & Schuster Canada. “In Truth Be Told, McLachlin invites readers into her legal and personal life—into the hopes and doubts, the triumphs and losses on and off the bench.”

Beverley McLachlin is the former Chief Justice of Canada, the first woman to hold that position. Her first novel, Full Disclosure, was an instant national bestseller.
