Simon & Schuster Children’s Publishing, under the imprint of Paula Wiseman Books, announced today plans to publish children’s picture books by Nobel Prize Laureate Toni Morrison and her son Slade Morrison. The first book, entitled Peeny-Butter Fudge, will be published on September 9, 2009, and S&S holds world rights.
Aravind Adiga, author of the 2008 Man Booker Prize-winning novel The White Tiger, will be in Toronto for the Luminato festival. Luminato runs June 5-14, 2009. Tickets go on sale April 16.

Jan. 26 The Underneath by Kathi Appelt has been named a Newbery Honor Book for distinguished contribution to American literature for children.
• Laurie Halse Anderson has been given the Margaret A. Edwards award for lifetime achievement and contribution to young adult literature.
• Ashley Bryan has been honored with the Laura Ingalls Wilder Medal for lifetime contribution to children’s literature.
• Just After Sunset by Stephen King has been honored with an Alex Award for being one of the best adult books for teens.
Jan. 5 The highly anticipated book will offer an intimate account of Mrs. Bushs life experiences, including eight years in the White House, and is expected to be published in 2010.
